🍇 How to Build a LEGO Vineyard with Realistic Grape Vines and a Wine Press
Welcome back to The Brick Guru, where we turn simple bricks into thriving LEGO scenes! Today, I’m showing you how to build a realistic LEGO vineyard, complete with climbing grapevines, trellises, and even an old-school wine press. Whether you’re designing a countryside vineyard or expanding your LEGO farmers market, this build will add charm and creativity to your city.
🌿 What You’ll Need
To build your vineyard, gather these LEGO pieces:
- Purple ice cream scoops (grapes)
- Brown flexible tubing
- 1×1 modified bricks with studs on the side
- 1×1 round bricks (reddish brown)
- Lime green and reddish brown studs
- 1×1 modified round plant pieces (lime green)
- Twig/branch elements for detail
🏗️ Step-by-Step: Building the Grape Trellis
1. Thread the Trellis Frame
Start with a length of flexible brown tubing—mine is 14 studs long. Instead of pushing bricks onto the tubing (which bends the tube), pull the tube through each 1×1 modified brick.
2. Add Trellis Posts
Attach 1×1 round bricks below the modified bricks to form vertical posts. You can then build these into the ground to give your trellis structure.
3. Climbing Vines
Add lime green leaf elements to the legs and tubing. Place them randomly to mimic natural vine growth. Your goal? Cover as much of the brown as possible—healthy vines are lush and full!
🍇 Adding the Grapes
4. First Grape Cluster
Slide a 1×1 modified brick onto the tubing at a slight angle. This angle is important—it allows you to attach two purple ice cream scoops on either side without them sticking out awkwardly.
5. Fill in the Greenery
Continue adding plant elements around the grapes to make the clusters feel full and integrated.
6. Add More Clusters
Repeat the process with more angled bricks, ensuring that each cluster is positioned differently to avoid symmetry. Nature is random!
7. Optional: Twig Details
Insert twig or branch pieces into the leaf elements. These details make the vines feel alive and still growing.
🧪 Small Tips for Realism
- If you’re low on grapes, a single scoop pointed straight down works too!
- Alternate the position of leaf pieces so they don’t all connect—this keeps the vine looking wild and natural.
- Experiment with 1×1 clip pieces for different trellis styles.
đźšś Placing the Vineyard in Your City
I placed my vineyard right next to the LEGO farmers market. It fits in perfectly with the rustic theme. You might notice one trellis has clip pieces for support—try out both styles and see which one you like best!
🍷 Building the Wine Press
Now that the grapes are growing, it’s time to make wine!
1. Manual Wine Press
I built a traditional wine press that uses minifigure feet to stomp grapes—a nod to old-fashioned winemaking methods.
2. Details That Matter
- The purple Bionicle hose acts as a wine pump that feeds into a spigot.
- Add pink and purple pieces at the base to represent crushed grapes spilling over.
👨‍🌾 Final Touches
I also added a farmer minifigure picking grapes, and rebuilt a tree I had to remove to make space. These tiny details bring the whole vineyard to life.
